Applied to glass, this substance turns into a thin, transparent, but strong film.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This film is able to securely hold cracked glass particles, preventing them from shattering. The substance is called cellulose nitrate.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>After several experiments with laminated glass, he made a \"sandwich\" of two glass surfaces and a layer of cellulose nitrate between them. When heated, the plastic layer melted, gluing the glass together. Such a \"sandwich\" could be hit with a hammer - it cracked but retained its shape, and the particles of cracked glass did not fly apart.
